Acute Bacterial Conjunctivitis Rebecca Weng BOptom Brien Holden Vision Institute Acute Bacterial Conjunctivitis ABSTRACT Acute bacterial conjunctivitis is encountered frequently in optometric practice. The condition often resolves on its own without any treatment. Although it is a self-limiting condition, current initial treatment for bacterial conjunctivitis is the application of a broad-spectrum topical antibiotic. While the use of antibiotics is associated with improved rates of early clinical remission, and early and late microbiological remission; its benefit in improving clinical outcome remains minimal. When prescribing antibiotics, clinician should ensure better patient compliance to minimise the growth of drug resistance. This report describes a patient who had been diagnosed with bacterial conjunctivitis, whose condition remained unresponsive when both chloramphenicol and tobramycin were prescribed. Different types of antibiotics and their modes of action are discussed. Possible drug adverse reactions are also included.

Als Reisediarrhöeprophylaxe: einmal tgl 1 Tbl morgens Als Therapie bei schwerer Reisediarrhöe: 3mal 1 Tbl für 5-7Tage Für Taucher interessant: Tauchtauglichkeit ist gegeben im Gegensatz zu anderen Antibiotika Vorsicht: wirkt nur bei Darminfektionen und nicht außerhalb bei anderen Infektionen wie Hautinfektionen etc. Clavamox Tbl a 1g (Amoxicillin/Clavulansäure): Clavamox ist ein bewährtes Breitenspektrumantibiotikum, welches in der Regel gut vertragen und sehr effektiv ist. Besonders Infektionen der Haut, infizierte Wunden, Angina tonsil aris, Nasennebenhöhlen Katarrh, Lungenentzündungen gehen recht gut auf Clavamox. Achtung: Es darf keine Penicillinallergie vorliegen Für Taucher: wie bei fast al en Antibiotika sol te nicht getaucht werden. Einnahme: bei Infektionen 2- bis 3-mal tgl. 1g 1-1-1 für 5-7 Tage Otanol Ohren gtt/Antibiotikum: Otanol enthält Ciprofloxacin, ein sehr gutes Antibiotikum bei Gehörgangsentzündung. Es hat des Weiteren den Vorteil, daß es in Phiolen abgepackt ist und man nicht die ganze Flasche wegschmeißen muss. Bei Gehörgangsentzündungen 2mal tgl eintropfen und für 3 weitere Tage nach Abklingen der Symptome weitergeben. Für Taucher: sobald Druckausgleich geht, kann getaucht werden, wichtig Nachtropfen nach Abklingen der Symptome! Finger weg vom Gehörgang!! Keine Wattestäbchen etc. !!! Psychopax Tropfen (Diazepam): Wirkstoff als Valium am besten bekannt. Es handelt sich um ein Beruhigungsmittel, welches vielerlei Verwendung findet. Bei hartnäckigen Schlafstörungen 15gtt einnehmen (macht mehr längerer Einnahme abhängig!), bei Nervenzusammenbrüchen 15gtt geben, bei Muskelverkrampfungen oder Hexenschuß etc 15gtt einnehmen. Bei Schock, Panik oder psychischen Ausnahmesituationen haben sich diese Tropfen bewährt. Für Taucher: durch lange Halbwertzeit Vorsicht mit early morning dives, wenn am Abend zuvor verwendet wurde! Vorsicht in Kombination mit Alkohol, Wirkung wird verstärkt. Dolgit Tbl 800mg (Ibuprofen): Dolgit ist eine einerseits schmerzhemmende andererseits entzündungshemmende Tablette. Sie wird bei al en Formen von Schmerzen oder Entzündungen eingesetzt und kann bis zu 2mal, maximal 3mal tgl eingenommen werden. Dolgit kann etwas auf den Magen schlagen, bei chronischen Nierenerkrankungen nicht geben. Bsp: Hexenschuß 2mal 800mg und viel trinken, bei Magenschmerzen zusätzlich Pantoloc 20mg einnehmen. Bei Fieber 800mg einnehmen, bei infizierten Wunden mit dementsprechenden Schmerzen 1 bis 2mal 800mg mit viel Wasser zu sich nehmen Bei Gehörgangentzündung ebenfal s sehr hilfreich eggen Schmerzen. Für diejenigen die bisher immer Aspirin genommen haben einfach Dolgit nehmen, da bei Taucher Aspirin wegen DCS-Behandlung (Mikroblutungen) nicht erwünscht ist und auch mehr Nebenwirkungen als Dolgit hat. Normakut BRTBL 2 mg/Elektrolyte und Mineralien Normakut enthält wichtige Mineralien und Elektrolyte, die durch Durchfall verloren gehen. Bei langem Durchfall also 3mal tgl 1Btl. Normakut einnehmen. Magnosolv BTL Bei Wadenkrämpfen, Muskelkrämpfen oder bei vielem Schwitzen am Tauchboot hilft 1 Btl Magnosolv, schmeckt außerdem auch ganz gut. Vertirosan B6 MDRG Sehr gut verträgliches Mittel gegen Schwindel und Seekrankheit, im Gegensatz zu anderen stärkeren Medikamenten annähernd nebenwirkungsfrei. 3mal 1 Drg. Paspertin TR Gutes Medikament gegen Übelkeit und Erbrechen. Man nimmt bis zu 3mal 30gtt, bei Lebensmittelvergiftung, Gastritis, Seekrankheit etc ganz nützlich, wird oft mit Pantoloc kombiniert. Assumingthe metaphoric and real character of the ‘body of the organization', differentdilemmas that work groups tackle in the generation of collaborative and productivespaces are described. Based on a socioanalytic consultancy carried out with agroup of Reichian body psychotherapists, the study illustrates the complexities todelineate a common strategy and to overcome the threatening porosity and incon-sistencies of the ‘institutional skin'. Analysis of queries posed to open-domain question-answering sys-tems indicates that particular types of queries are dominant, e.g., queries aboutthe identity of people, and about the location or time of events. We applied a rule-based mechanism and performed manual classification to classify queries intosuch commonly occurring types. We then experimented with different adjust-ments to our basic document retrieval process for each query type. The applica-tion of the best retrieval adjustment for each query type yielded improvements inretrieval performance. Finally, we applied a machine learning technique to auto-matically learn the manually classified query types, and applied the best retrievaladjustments obtained for the manual classification to the automatically learnedquery classes. The learning algorithm exhibited high accuracy, and the retrievalperformance obtained for the learned classes was consistent with the performanceobtained for the rule-based and manual classifications.

Pecking at Pecking Order Theory: Evidence from Pakistan's Non-financial SectorSheikh Jibran, Shakeel Ahmed Wajid, Iqbal Waheed, Tahir Masood Muhammad AbstractThis study tests the Pecking Order Theory for the capital structure of listed firms in Pakistan. As per Pecking Order Theory in capital structure formulation, internally generated resources would have first priority, followed by debt issuance where equity is used as a last resort. In its strong form, the Pecking Order Theory sustains that equity issues would never occur, whereas in its weak form, limited amounts of issues are acceptable. The methodology adopted in this empirical study involves cross-section regressions and the testing of hypotheses stemming from the underlying theory in its strong and weak forms.A sample of capital structure of non-financial firms listed at KSE is considered from 2001 to 2008. A statistical tool of panel data regression analysis is used to test different firms' data. The value of R2, t-test and F-Stat indicate firms in KSE supporting the weak form of pecking order theory, i.e., the option of using internal equity and debt is more preferred and a limited amount of external equity is used for reinvestment and fund raising purposes.

The course will have three main focuses: 1) language's role in constructing the world, 2) audience awareness, and 3) classical rhetoric. These are some of the most important things for writers to be aware of, and while most good writers internalize these components of composition we will consciously analyze, discuss, and use them to achieve our four official Course Goals: 1) Know the Context, 2) Think Critically, 3) Learn Processes for Writing, Revision, and Reflection, and 4) Know the Rules. These goals are explained in WiP pages xvi-xvii, and we will discuss them extensively in class.
